SDT offers a variety of different opportunities, please see links below for further details.
- Auditions

Auditions for SDT have closed.
Dundee Rep is an equal opportunities employer - SDT Company Class
SDT welcomes professionally trained dancers and students to come and join company class at our base in Dundee and sometimes when we are on tour. If you would like to find out more please contact Sally Owen.
- Apprentice Dancers
SDT takes on two apprentice dancers each year through the postgraduate programme at London Contemporary Dance School [LCDS]. While working with the company for a year, they are also registered as students working towards Postgraduate Diploma/MA qualifications which are validated by the University of Kent. The course is largely practical with assessments of technique, rehearsal and performance making up the majority of the marks.
The company is committed to involving the Apprentices in all aspects of company life so that they gain invaluable experience of the profession and are aided in making the transition from student to professional. Apprentices often get the opportunity to perform with the company and may be involved in SDT’s education work.
Auditions are held annually at LCDS, in London. The deadline for applications for the academic year 2010/11 will be January 2010. Please check back for further details later this year.
Applicants can apply online or print a hard copy of the application form from theplace.org.uk/prospectus.

SDT occasionally offers placements to people interested in a particular aspect of the company’s work - artistic, marketing, technical, administration. Contact Assistant Director, Sally Owen for more details.
We have recently had choreographer and dancer Marc Brew on placement with us for three months. As an aspiring Artistic Leader of the Future, Marc was selected by Dance East to receive a Rural Retreat Placement with SDT, shadowing Artistic Director Janet Smith and experiencing the work of departments across the company. - Choreographic Residencies
The last residency took place in Autumn 2008 and involved 5 professional dance artists and SDT company members and apprentices in a one-week intensive exploring and developing technical, creative, collaborative and performance skills, enhancing and celebrationg our sense of community. The residency was directed by Janet Smith along with guest teacher and choreographer Beth Cassani and culminated in an informal site specific creative/performance work, accompanied by specially composed music, in response to an exhibition at Dundee Contemporary Art (DCA).
